			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This post will show you how to fix a Belkin Flip KVM (I have the USB and Audio mode, but it will probrably work for others too).<br />

<p>I&#8217;ve had an old VGA and PS2 Belkin for a few years now. But recently I moved on to a USB keyboard and mouse, which made the old PS2 KVM a bit redundant.<br />
I decided to buy myself a new <a href="http://www.belkin.com/flip/">Belkin Flip USB KVM (F1DG102U)</a>.</p>
<p>Due to the complex setup I have, I only actually used this to switch the keyboard and mouse between 2 computers, leaving the screen functionality alone. Recently however I have upgraded my main PC (to a bit of a monster&#8230; but more on that later). My new setup leaves me wanting to make use of the whole switch!</p>
<p>I plugged everything in and all looked fine, however before long I noticed that when the screen should turn to standby and fall asleep, it instead displayed the &#8220;I&#8217;m not connected to anything&#8221; message. Are you <em>really</em> telling me that Belkin skimped on this product &#8211; the old one worked fine don&#8217;t forget.</p>
<p>I did a bit of research and testing of my own, and discovered that if you connect the Ground (pin 5), Red Return (pin 6), Green Return (pin 7) and Blue Return (pin 8&#41; together then the screen will fall asleep correctly. Having tested my old KVM it turns out that these are connected together (what a surprise!) but on my new KVM they are not.</p>
<p>On the new KVM the RGB Return lines are connected together and also tied to a second Ground that is used for VSync and DDC. Again, testing my old KVM it appears that this is in the bundle.</p>
<h3 id="the_fix">The Fix</h3>
<p>So now for the fix.</p>
<p>All you will need to do is solder pins 5 and 10 of the VGA connector on the KVM together. Simple!</p>
<p>Step 1: Unplug everything from the KVM, including the &#8220;built in&#8221; cables by unscrewing the green and orange pins.</p>
<p>Step 2: The screw is located under the sticker on the bottom, just use your finger and some pressure and youll be able to feel it. Then poke your screwdriver (phillips) through and unscrew.<br />

<p>Step 3: Now that nothing is holding the unit together apart from friction, carefully pull the 2 sides apart. The dark grey front piece will stay with one half.</p>
<p>Step 4: Now carefully pull the grey piece off and the board will come too.</p>
<p>Step 5: Identify pins 5 and 10 of the VGA connector on the board (<a target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector">wiki -VGA Connector</a>), and make a connection with solder. Be careful not to de-solder any of the other pins or components and also take care not to make anything too hot by holding your iron on for too long. A solder bridge can be fiddly to do so be patient.<br />
